ORIGIN OF THE HAMILTON TIGER-CAT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

ORIGIN OF THE HAMILTON TIGER-CAT ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

In the mid-80’s, Len Chandler, Ron Howell, Cam Fraser, Alex Muzyka, Bob Dawson and Jim Stewart met at Tom “Red” Hickey’s to mull over the idea of forming a Hamilton Tiger-Cat Alumni Association.

The founding past players were very cognizant of the fact that the Tiger-Cat Football Club was a combination of the Hamilton Wildcats and the ORFU club, the Hamilton Tigers.

On their agenda was the establishment of a logo which would incorporate all clubs involved and a red and blue stripe was added to the black and gold of the Tigers. The stripes were later deleted and the current logo adopted.

High on the agenda was the need for a Constitution for the newly formed association.  Reg Wheeler, a local Alumnus involved in Hamilton politics, was asked to strike a Committee to draw up the Constitution.  The Committee members were Reg Wheeler, Ed Chalupka and Bob Krouse.

On April 16, 1986, the founding meeting of the Hamilton Tiger-Cat Alumni Association was held with approximately 75 former players in attendance and Len Chandler was elected as the first President of our Alumni Association.
